Kesar Elaichi Shrikhand...homemade in 5 mins

Homemade Shrikhand Recipe Shrikhand is mildly flavoured indian dessert which is traditionally prepared by hung curd , sugar and spices like cardamons, saffron and dry fruits. This is the first time I have made shrikhand at home, usually back in bombay we used to get the readymade Amul shrikhand. This is the most easiest and quickest way to make creamy shrikhand without compromising on the flavor. I have used Greek yogurt to make this yummy dessert. It tasted even better than ready made ones we get and you can try different flavors and explore your creativity. I love the flavor and aroma of elaichi in shrikhand. I made this creamy shrikhand in just about 10 mins and wow i was so impressed with the results, that I am planning to make this again as i finished the entire bowl all by my self :)) Sending this to Srivalli's Mithai Mela, WYF:Quick Meals by EC and 15 mins cooking by Mahimaa. From thursday i'll be travelling so will not be able to visit your blogs often.
Ingredients:
1 1/2 cups of greek yogurt
1/3 cups of sugar
1 tsp elaichi powder
1 tsp masala milk powder (optional)
a pinch of saffron dissolved in 1 tsp warm milk
chopped pistachios for garnishing
How to make shrikhand at home
Procedure:
  • Add sugar in greek yogurt and mix well.
  • Now add in elaichi, masala milk powder and kesar dissolved in tsp warm milk.
  • Mix well and chill for 1 hour.
  • Garnish with pistachios or any chopped nuts and serve chilled.
What can be more simpler than this? You can try using seasonal fresh fruits like mangoes and strawberries.

  55. HI,
I am newly married and a full time student and recipes such as these are extremely welcomed! I wanted to know what is Greek yogurt, is it different from the regular yogurt and secondly what is masala milk and how would I explain at the indian grocery store to get this?

    Thank you,
    Saloni

  56. Hi Saloni, i cudnt get your email id hence replying back here...greek yogurt is strained yogurt without water, you can also use normal yogurt and strain the water using a muslin cloth, you should be able to find greek yogurt in the freezer section of supermarket where curd is kept, masala milk powder is basically made up of crushed cardamons, kesar and dry fruits, it should be easily available in any indian grocery store..hope this helps, let me know incase you require any other info :)
